Delhi School Open Board (DSOB) was established and registered under the Government of Delhi. DSOB aims to provide education up to secondary and senior secondary levels, with a special focus on children belonging to Scheduled Tribes (STs). Recognizing the urgent need to reach STs, socially and educationally disadvantaged classes, and other culturally, economically, and geographically weaker sections of society, DSOB is committed to addressing the low literacy rates among these groups, particularly among girl children. In response to the need to accelerate the progress of secondary education in tribal and rural areas, DSOB collaborates closely with the State of Delhi. Based on the experience gained, DSOB may extend its initiatives to similar communities in other states.
DSOB has developed a comprehensive syllabus and examination scheme for High School and Intermediate Examinations, which has been submitted to the Government of Delhi. For the Secondary/High School and Senior Secondary/Intermediate programs, learners are required to study six subjects for Secondary and five subjects for Senior Secondary for certification purposes. Additionally, learners have the option to study one more subject according to their convenience. Each subject's curriculum is planned for 100 hours of study time, with 40 hours allocated to study centers/academic centers/personal contact classes and 60 hours to self-study. The entry requirements at the SSC (10th) level will follow the standards set by other open schools.
DSOB conducts public examinations twice a year, similar to other State Open Schools. Candidates have nine opportunities to appear in the public examinations over a period of five years from the date of registration to complete the Secondary School Certification (SSC) or Senior Secondary School Certification (Sr. SSC). DSOB issues SSC/Sr. SSC pass certificates under its emblem to all who qualify for the courses. These certificates are equivalent to the SSC/Sr. SSC of the formal education system in the country on a reciprocal basis. Candidates can choose to appear in one or more subjects in any examination and accumulate credits until all subjects required for certification are successfully completed within five years from the date of registration. Credits from up to two subjects passed in SSC examinations conducted by other Boards/Councils recognized by COBSE can be transferred when appearing for SSC in the Open Schooling system. DSOB also offers an 'On Demand-On-Line’ examination option for interested students, with a detailed scheme provided.
DSOB will establish centers at district headquarters in the state, with at least one institution in each Block nominated as an Academic Centre/Study Centre. There will be no restriction on the number of Academic Centers, depending on demand. DSOB also has the option to set up branches in locations outside Delhi, based on need and demand as the scheme progresses.
DSOB will approve study or academic centers and/or vocational study centers through appropriate agreements to implement open and distance learning programs.
DSOB is designed to be a self-sustained body without any financial commitment from the State Government.
