The Delhi School Open Board (DSOB) was established to offer specialized services to the government and other agencies in the field of education, particularly school education, for the development and growth of the distance and open school system. DSOB aims to develop a proper curriculum for vocational and enduring education to prepare students for the world of work.

To ensure linkages with traditional education systems like State Open Schools, Sanskrit Boards, and Madarsas with predictable education systems, DSOB works in close association with these institutions. DSOB follows the norms for conducting examinations and adheres to the National Curriculum Framework, 2005, as amended from time to time.

DSOB was envisioned as a comprehensive instructional release institution that offers students the autonomy to receive education without the constraint of attending daily classes. We have successfully created a distance education program as a planned extended learning endeavor. DSOB has gained expertise in delivering instructional resources, thereby providing opportunities to students located away from the institution.

The National Policy on Education suggested the intensification of DSOB to extend open learning facilities in a phased manner at High School and Intermediate levels across the country and abroad as an independent system with its own curriculum and examination leading to the awarding of certificates.
